Bill is a DC area native with over 10 years’ experience teaching Chinese internal martial arts. He began his study of Xingyiquan in 1994 while obtaining two bachelor’s degrees from Virginia Tech. In 2011, he joined the North American Tang Shou Tao Association (www.natsta.org) and has been studying Shen Long Xingyiquan with Miles Grody (White Lotus Chinese Martial Arts in Potomac, MD) ever since. In 2016 he began formally training Li Jingzhai-style Xingyiquan and Yang Style Taijiquan (Tai Chi) under Li Cang from Shandong, China. His background also includes a third lineage of Xingyiquan, two lineages of Baguazhang, San Miguel Eskrima, Emperado Method Kajukenbo, free sparring, and Qigong. In multiple trips to China, Bill has gained invaluable experience and received direct instruction from several top tier Chinese teachers including Li Runxi (Taiyuan, Shanxi Province) and Liu Shuhang (Tianjin).

For generations the Chinese internal martial arts have allowed practitioners to improve their health, well-being, and safety. Although Taijiquan (Tai Chi) has wide name recognition in the west, Xingyiquan is still relatively unknown despite offering a more direct pathway to many of the benefits. Bill is focused on sharing these arts with the wider community. He currently teaches semi-privately in addition to group classes.
