Carol Maloney has had a unique path to opening Well and Wonder Studio. Born in Iowa, Carol is one of seven children who spent most of their childhood outdoors playing sports. After graduating from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, Carol began her sports broadcasting career at a time when women were first starting to be welcomed in the industry. From Iowa, Carol moved to Denver to work at KUSA before landing a main role at what is now NBC Sports Washington in 2001. 10 years and 2 kids later, Carol was hired at WRC where she spent 6 years as the lead Sports Anchor.
Carol left NBC and hosted “The Carol Maloney Show” on ESPN 630, becoming the first women to host a sports talk radio show in DC. She also covered the Washington Nationals on MASN during their World Series run in 2019, freelanced as a basketball play-by-play announcer and taught fitness classes at Equinox Bethesda.
In 2020, the plug was pulled on her career when Covid hit when she was laid off from all 4 jobs in 4 months.
In the months that followed, Carol turned to breathwork and yoga to ease her mind, body and spirit. She discovered soundbaths. She learned how to meditate. She harnessed the healing power of hemp. When the world opened back up, Carol realized she was not alone trying to find her way back to wellness.
In 2021, the CDC and Census Bureau released the results of a government study on changes in the mental health status during the pandemic. The results were not that surprising. The study reported that nearly half of the adults over the age of 18 currently suffer from anxiety and depressive disorders. Uncertainty, stress, financial strain, lack of a social life- all have contributed to the nation’s growing mental health crisis. It was the knowledge of this pain that led Carol to create Well and Wonder Studio.
Well and Wonder is a place that offers high-end wellness products, free consultations, workshops and personal attention. Well and Wonder offers yoga, meditation, gyrokinesis and sound baths, classes with positive peer pressure for all levels motivated by the area’s best instructors. Carol describes it as a Community Center for people in pain.
The uncertainty of the world makes these challenging times for everyone. Carol knows Well and Wonder can help you be well and wonderful again.
